Born to a simple farming family in Germany, St. Catherine Kasper was one of four young women to form the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. At the request of Bishop John Henry Luers, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ came to the United States, to Hessen Cassel, Indiana. Although Mother Kasper never visited the United States, her legacy includes the ministry work done in the United States by the Poor Handmaids that did come to America and continued to live out her example.
Mother Catherine Kasper was canonized October 14, 2018.
