Here's a Way of the Cross for Children that invites reflection, prayer, and action in a beautiful journal format. Each step along the way, the reader encounters the story of Jesus' suffering and death in simple, kid-friendly language accompanied by vivid illustrations. Then, children are invited to imaginatively "enter the story," using two journal spaces to record their experience and their prayerful response. Finally, readers are invited to imitate Jesus by recording their acts of love and sacrifice. The Way of the Cross Journal for Children is appropriate for children ages 5-8; beginning readers will need adult assistance.
In simple rhyme accompanied by Scripture verses and sweet, expressive illustrations, I Can Be Happy, Too teaches children that while we can't control the bad things that happen to us, we can control how we respond to disappointment and adversity. As essential as emotions are, they often prevent our children (and us!) from responding to the world in the best way. Learning how to respond to life's ups and downs positively empowers our children and helps them mature into emotionally healthy adults.

St. Martin de Porres ran a shelter where he would care for the sick and poor, even sick animals! He loved all animals, but Martin knew there were too many mice running around the streets of his city. They were climbing in pots and scurrying through houses. The cats could not keep up with them! Legend has it that Martin asked the mice to kindly leave. Because of Martin’s gentle nature, the mice listened to him. The cats he cared for at his shelter were able to rest until they were strong enough to find new homes.
St. Rocco spent much of his life caring for the sick and poor. When he became ill, he was banished from the city. Rocco found a cave to sleep in and drank water from a small stream. One day, a puppy from a nearby castle saw Rocco in the cave. The puppy brought Rocco bread and tickled him with licks! A few days later, the puppy led a kind man to Rocco’s cave. Rocco was rescued and brought back to the city. The puppy is still remembered today for his love and kindness.
